from my heart to my pelvis, roots poured out of me — the soil patching every wound.
9 in x 11 in. Naturally dyed textile with malt extract agar poured onto it; inoculated with drought resistant endophytic fungi cultured from native grasses of New Mexico.

This burn marked and naturally dyed fabric contains imagery based on a meditation of opening oneself up from the pelvic floor to the heart to expose, decompose, and transform the harmful narratives our bodies hold on to. The fungi used for this project was originally cultured from the roots of native grasses in New Mexico— Bouteloua gracilis (blue grama) and Bouteloua eriopoda (black grama) and was found to be drought resistant and heat resistant from an experiment done by a fellow lab colleague. These fungi support the growth of ecologically beneficial grasses by aiding in water retention/ uptake and nutrient uptake. The power of desert fungi species is only beginning to reveal itself and there is a lot to learn from these resilient organisms.
